Bike Tune Up or Bike Repair? What do I need?
For a bicycle that is routinely maintained, a bike tune up will probably suffice. As you add up miles on your bike, because of your weight and the irregularities in the surface of the road, the wheels tend to start wobbling a little bit. Nothing alarming, it’s normal. Slightly untrue wheels will be straightened up during a regular tune-up. This is done by adjusting the tension of the spokes that make up the wheel. Additionally, the cables that activate the brakes and the gears also tend to stretch somehow, and the braking and gear shifting will feel different as more miles are added on the bike. Again, a tune up will take care of that. Cables will be tightened (or replaced if they are frayed), derailleurs readjusted as needed. Nothing bad, nothing difficult. If the bicycle is used a lot, brake pads might need replacement while near the wear line. Part of the tune up too.
So, what’s left? The more serious stuff i.e. the needed repair. Some basic bike repairs could be replacing a broken spoke (or two) which really makes the wheel wobble, replacing a worn chain or set of gears that make the pedaling slipping and skipping when enough pressure is put on the pedals, straightening up a bent rear derailleur which makes the gears skip, replacing/fixing a broken shifter or brake lever, etc. Plenty of things actually, but relatively basic in essence. As long as the bicycle frame is good, everything else can be either repaired or replaced.
Bicycle Tune Up
At Mission Trails Bike shop, we can tune up your bike in 24 to 48 hours, or even same day if our workload allows it. In a matter of minutes, we can go over the bike with you, and quickly figure out what needs to be done. A bicycle is simple mechanics, and chances are that if your bike was running fine the last time you used it, we can tune it up without any parts to be replaced. Maybe a few cables and some worn out brake pads. Our professional tune-up will put your bicycle safely back on the road. We’ll check your rims, gears, chain, brakes, steering, tire condition and pressure levels. We do not leave anything behind. Additionally, all our work comes with a 30-day warranty, parts and labor.
